SAILS Bridge Math 2023 - 24 (Period 5th Block)

Course Description

SAILS Description:

The Seamless Alignment and Integrated Learning Support (SAILS) program targets students who have not achieved college readiness benchmarks by introducing the college developmental curriculum into the high school senior year. Developed by K-12 teachers and higher-education faculty, SAILS embeds college Learning Support competencies into the high school senior year math course, allowing students to begin their college career prepared for credit-bearing coursework. SAILS utilizes a facilitated hybrid instructional model, combining the professional pedagogical expertise of the certified teacher with dynamic properties of multimedia and digital content. Research supports that this blended system of teaching and learning is the most effective at engaging students with their work and increases their success rate. For more information on SAILS go to https://www.tbr.edu/academics/sails. On twitter: @SAILSTennessee.

The only assignments that count are Tests.  There are five test that must be completed with a grade of at least a 75 (not 74.9).  Students are not allowed to take a test until they successfully complete all the work for each module leading up to the test.  If they pass, they may go on to the next module.  If they do not make at least a 75, they must do remedial work, then repeat the test until they pass it.  There is a pacing guide (attached below) which will allow them to know how they are doing time wise.

For students to pass SAILS, they must successfully complete the first 5 modules.  To pass LA's course, they must also complete the first 5 modules.  Their grade will be their test average.  On Skyward, students will be given a zero for tests not taken if they should have been taken already.  I do not give a grade for tests that haven't been taken that are ahead of schedule.  I give them their test grade when they take a test.  I change it to the higher grade when they repeat a test and make a higher grade.  If they have made a grade that is higher than a 75 and repeat a test and get a higher grade, they should notify me so I can change their grade on Skyward.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact me.  Email is usually the most efficient way to contact me, but any way you choose is fine. (Gayron Franklin)

  • Students complete SAILS MATH at their own pace.  They may work on assignments here at school or wherever they have an internet connection.  To proceed through the course, they must pass homework assignments with a grade of 90%, Quizzes and Tests with a grade of 75%.  TO PASS THE COURSE, STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THE FIRST 5 MODULES OF THE COURSE WITH AT LEAST A 75% TEST GRADE ON SAILS - (NOT 74.9 ).  STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THE COURSE (5-MODULES) TO AVOID TAKING REMEDIAL MATH CLASSES AT COLLEGE.

STUDENTS MUST BE MONITORED WHEN TAKING THE TESTS.  IF TOO MANY STUDENTS WANT TO TAKE A TEST ON THE SAME DAY, I WILL HAVE TO HAVE SOME TAKE IT THE NEXT DAY OR THE NEXT - DEPENDING ON THE NUMBERS.

Student's grades on Skyward will be a straight average of their test grades on SAILS.  I will give students a 0 if they should have taken a test, but haven't done so.  When they take the test, I will change this grade to whatever they make on it.  If they haven't taken a test that is scheduled for a future date, I will leave their grade blank.  Whenever they take a test, I will give them the grade they made on the test.  If they re-take a test they made more than 75 on to improve their grade, they should notify me so I can change their grade on Skyward.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact me.  Email is usually the easiest way to contact me, but any method is okay.

TIP:  Please DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!  Do as much as you can as soon as you can do it.
