Spearheaded by Mr. Bill McDaniel, a group of Livingston Academy students have begun conducting a schoolwide recycling program. “This was something I wanted to bring in from other schools I’ve worked with, like Osceola back in Florida,” McDaniel, currently in his second year in Hogeye country, said. “That was a much larger school district, but we can still do a lot of good with it here. The program gives the kids a chance to gain job preparation, creating independence and responsibility while they go around and make pick-ups throughout the building.” LA teachers were provided blue bins to collect paper waste, which McDaniel’s students will empty each week, ensuring their transportation to the proper recycling facilities. Selected as student leaders for the project were Curtis Smith and Caleb Lowe. “This will help people learn how to properly recycle things,” Smith remarked. “I also think it’ll be a lot of fun.”
