GEOMETRY

Course Description:  Geometry is an important course for many reasons.  First, 40% of the ACT is Geometry.  Next, it is by far the most applicable math class taught in high school. And, last, but not least, it introduces the process of logical thinking through the use of Proofs.  :  This course is designed to emphasize the study of the properties and applications of common geometric figures in two and three dimensions.  It includes the study of transformations and right triangle trigonometry.  Inductive and deductive thinking skills are used in problem solving situations, and applications to the real world are stressed.  It also emphasizes writing proofs to solve (prove) properties of geometric figures.  Students who complete Geometry should take Algebra II next.

Ninety-five percent of Geometry is knowing VOCABULARY and THEOREMS!!   It will take effort on the part of the student to learn these concepts outside of class.  Proper study and mastery of Geometry can raise a student’s ACT score as much as 8 points!  So it is worth the effort! See a full list of your standards at: http://www.tennessee.gov/education/standards/math.shtml.
