Lesson Plans March 4-8

We will not come to school on 5 March due to elections.  We also have spring Break next week and school will not be in session March 11-15.
 
ELA 11th grade
 
I have begun ACT review in class, and we will be going over concepts every day.  For students to be successful, they need to attend class every day and come prepared for the ACT on March 28th.
 
Monday - We will go over commas in a series, pronouns, and identifying complete sentences and fragments,
 
Tuesday - No school Election Day
 
Wednesday - We will go over subject-verb agreement and practice identifying.
 
Thursday - We will take notes on clauses and practice identifying them.
 
Friday - We will take notes on phrases and practice identifying them.
 
No quiz this week.
 
Genre Lit.
 
We will continue to read "Tangerine" and complete our comprehension packet every day.  There will be discussion as we read, before we read, and during reading to deepen understanding.

Lesson plans for Jan 25-26 2024

Welcome back from SNOWMAGEDDON!
 
11th Grade English 
 
We have missed a lot of learning, so I ask in the kindest way that you please send your children to school every day.
 
Thursday - We will begin our new unit which deals with the human condition.  Our first story is by Ernest Hemingway and students will annotate the text as we read and complete a critical summary.
Friday - We will get back into our class routines today. We will journal and do daily grammar.  We will then go over how our society has changed and discuss which event may have been most influential.
 
Genre Literature
 
 
Thursday - We will read a multi part story about Autism and discuss how this translates to our school.
Friday - Finish reading the first part of the story and begin annotating and filling out the packet.
 

Lesson Plans 5-9 February

We are now in February, and we will be exploring the short story and how characters react to the human conditions in life.

11th Grade English
 
Monday - We will have a guest speaker from the district today to speak about future plans.
 
Tuesday - In class we will read Everything Stuck to Him and annotate for dialect, character traits, and frame story elements.  We will also look at the use of flashbacks and endocentric Compounds.
 
Wednesday - We will continue with our learning from yesterday and complete analyzing text questions, comprehension questions, along with a character chart.
 
Thursday - We will go back and re-read and annotate for foreshadowing elements.
Friday - We will complete a short writing assignment where students must retell an event from the story and incorporate factual research information into a rewritten scene from our story.
 
 
Genre Literature 
 
Monday - We will discuss and come up with a grading system for our novel studies.  If time permits we will begin reading our new novel. Tangerine.
 
Tuesday - read the intro and discuss what to expect in the story, make inferences.
Wednesday - Read Tangerine and discuss.
 
Thursday - Read Tangerine and discuss.
 
Friday - Read Tangerine and discuss.

Lesson plans for Jan 29 to Feb 2nd

We are now in February, and we will be exploring the short story and how characters react to the human conditions in life.

11th Grade English
 
Monday - We will read The Brief History of the Short Story and annotate the text for active and passive voice, writing style, theme, and sequence of events.
 
Tuesday - In class we will read Everyday Use and annotate for dialect, character traits, and how language functions.  We will also look at the use of flashbacks and exocentric Compounds.
 
Wednesday - We will continue with our learning from yesterday and complete analyzing text questions along with a character chart.
 
Thursday - We will complete a short writing assignment where students must retell an event from the story in another character's perspective.
 
Friday - Narrative notes, class brainstorm about alternate endings to The Old Man at the Bridge, teacher examples and outlines will be passed out to help with the writing.  We will continue this assignment on Monday and Turn it in Tuesday February 6th (subject to change due to weather).
 
 
Genre Literature 
 
Monday - We will begin a three-part story about a family struggling and how the two siblings help each other through called Listening For Crickets. We will begin with background information and discussion about the story and then we will begin to read part one.
 
Tuesday - Finish reading Listening For Crickets part one, complete packet work, turn in for a grade.
 
Wednesday - Begin reading and working on part two of our story.
 
Thursday - Complete part two, turn in for a grade.
 
Friday - Discussion about character traits.  Students are to return to the two previous stories, identify character traits for the two main characters, and tell me what kind of person they think they are base3d on text evidence.

Friday - Discussion about reading plays and assigning parts for The Crucible.
