I'm Lauren Coffman. I am currently the Work Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator, as well as a Family and Consumer (FACS) teacher at Livingston Academy. I serve as the advisor for Project Graduation, as well as the Interact Club. I also maintain the school website.
I graduated from Livingston Academy in 2001. I immediately went on to Tennessee Tech University, where I received a B.S. in Human Ecology with a concentration in Family and Consumer Science Education in 2005. I also obtained an endorsement in Commercial Food Preparation.
I gained my first real meaningful employment in 2005 at Warren County High School in McMinnville, TN. I taught Culinary Arts I and Culinary Arts II/III. At this job, I learned many things about what it means to be a teacher. I had students that tested my limits, and showed me my weaknesses. I also had students that were amazing, and I'll never forget.
In 2008, to be closer to my home, I accepted a position at the Dept. of Children's Services as a Family Service Worker. Never in a million years would I have ever thought I'd be a social worker, but the job dealt with kids. Kids are my thing! Although this job was the most trying, stressful, anxiety-filled and tear-filled, it taught me a lot about being honest and up front at all times, even when it is hard.
Finally, in 2011, I accepted a position at my alma mater (LA) as a Work Based Learning Coordinator as well as a FACS teacher. I was (and still am) so excited to be teaching alongside teachers that I had the pleasure of having in class. I still can't call these teachers by their first names!!
For two years, I took on a part time role with the State of Tennessee as a WBL Leadership Council member. As a group, we facilitated trainings across the state to new WBL coordinators. Also, we facilitated PLC meetings monthly to help new and seasoned WBL coordinators network. This job absolutely pushed me to my limits. I've learned how to be better presenter, and I was encouraged by the best group of WBL coordinators across the state!
I have two wonderful kiddos, Rylee (15) and Ryder (9). I also have a very supportive husband, Josh, who is most definitely the salt to my pepper!
